After receiving a B.S. in Speech from Emerson College in 1966 with a major in Broadcasting Communications, Jerry Angier worked in the Boston area as a TV Producer/Director. A career change in 1968 brought him into the insurance industry where he became an agency office manager in Cincinnati and Portland, Maine. A fortunate move to the sales side of the insurance field in 1975 allowed him to stay in Maine and start his own agency, Jerry Angier & Associates, in downtown Portland. He retired in 2011 after almost 44 years in the business. He still is involved in the Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce working for more than 20 years with the cruise ship industry to bring ships to Portland; he served on the board three times.

As an admirer of the Bangor & Aroostook Railroad in Northern Maine because of family connections since childhood, he authored three books on the railroad, The B&A as people call it in Maine. Articles about The B&A over the years include one in Railroad History 152 (1985).

He and his wife Nancy live in the Portland suburb of Cape Elizabeth. Besides being involved in the R&LHS (secretary since 2010), he is on the board of directors of the 2-foot gauge Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad and chair of the Fundraising Committee. The railroad is starting a capital campaign to raise $4 million to move the collection from Portland to Gray, Maine. This will give the museum a permanent home and right of way that it will own for the first time in 19 years. It was a pleasure for Nancy and me to host the 2009 R&LHS Annual Meeting in Portland.
