The station restoration project, when completed, is expected to yield many benefits to the nearby community and for the recreational resources of the area in general.
MUSEUM- In the freight house. Permanent- History of the Lackawanna Railroad and the Pocono Mountains tourist industry. Temporary-Seasonal exhibits of local cultural, historical, and artistic significance.
MEETING FACILITY- In the station. Any group needing a meeting site. The Borough, civic organizations, churches, historic groups, clubs, etc.
PARK & PICNIC AREA- As a borough riverside park or as part of the Delaware River National Recreation area, the land to be acquired across the tracks could be returned to its historic role as a park . This, with the station facilities, would benefit canoeists, fishermen, rafting companies, hikers, or anyone desiring river access.
HOST SITE FOR CULTURAL EVENTS- As a venue for antique shows, car shows, etc. And also as an additional site for the DWG Celebration of the Arts Festival (COTA). This is an outdoor jazz festival.
HIKING TRAILS- The station site is at the central location for a junction of the Appalachian Trail, The Brodhead Greenway Corridor Trail (via the new Pennsylvania Welcome Center), and the Delaware River Basin Mc Dade Trail and all the other National Recreation Area trails connecting with them.
INTERDISCIPLINARY LEARNING SITE- A year-round facility for indoor and outdoor learning activities. Environmental and river studies, archaeological, historical, etc.
RAILROAD STOP- With the opening of scheduled service in 2003, the station
could become a tourist stop for the village to antique shop, recreate,
visit museums, dine, etc. Situated midway between Steamtown National
Historic Site in Scranton, PA and the projected New Jersey Railroad & Transportation Heritage
Center in Phillipsburg, the potential for premier tourist operations through the gap and over the Pocono Mountains with a stop at the station will exist.
