Thinking of becoming a member of R&LHS?
The Railway & Locomotive Historical Society, Inc. is the oldest organization in North America devoted to railroad history, and among the first anywhere to pursue formal studies in the history of technology. Its object is to promote research and to encourage preservation of documentation pertinent to business history, finance, labor history, and biography as well as technology.
The Society has eight local chapters. Memberships are offered in the national society plus, optionally, as many chapters as the member may wish to join.
Member benefits
- Railroad History is mailed every June and December to members of The Railway & Locomotive Historical Society. The journal is softbound, in full color, with extensive photography and art on 120 coated pages. It publishes wide-ranging articles on business, social and technical history, as well as book reviews and contemporary topics that reflect on railway history.
- The R&LHS Newsletter is published four times a year in January, April, July, and October. It usually contains 12 or more pages and addresses topics of current interest in the society and in railroading. It also offers brief features on railroad history.
- Members-only Internet discussion groups.
- Eligible to participate in annual meetings of R&LHS held each spring at locations significant in railroad history.
