When Fred Stindt was president, Hauck suggested publication of a newsletter and helped start a modest publication advertising program.<\/p>\nReflecting on his years of service, Hauck said: \u201cProviding leadership in the preservation of railroad history was perhaps the most important function of the Society in early years\u2014when pioneering leadership was sorely needed\u2014and it still is one of our important purposes. But service to members\u2014and providing valuable benefits to those who are supporting the society\u2014is not just important but essential to keep in mind. Our journal Railroad History is our most important product both as a member benefit and as a means of furthering interest in the history of railroading.”<\/p>\n
